His Excellency Mr James Wise

Australian Ambassador to the Kingdom of Thailand

James Wise has been Ambassador to Thailand since August 2010. This is his second posting to Thailand. From 1995 to 1998 he was Deputy Head of Mission at the Australian Embassy in Bangkok and Permanent Representative to ESCAP. Mr Wise has also been Australia’s High Commissioner (Ambassador) to Malaysia (2003-07). Earlier in his career he served in Moscow (1987-91) and in Port Moresby (1983-85). Mr Wise has also held senior positions in the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade in Canberra. From 2007 to 2010, he was First Assistant Secretary (Director-General equivalent), Corporate Management Division. In 2001-2002 he was First Assistant Secretary of South Pacific, Africa and Middle East Division. Educated at the University of Tasmania, Mr Wise holds a Bachelor of Arts degree with first class Honours in History. He is married to Teresa. They have two adult children, Matthew and Anita.
